What is Peracide?
Peracide is an in-situ formulated tablet that consists of two precursors (hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid) that react to produce peracetic acid.
Peracetic acid is a highly effective broad-spectrum biocide that has been used since the 1950s as a pre-formed liquid at either 5% or 30%. Pre-formed peracetic acid at 5-30% is corrosive, highly flammable, and unstable. It is also difficult and to handle and costly transport.
Peracide in-situ tablet formulation is able to prevent the solution from being flammable and corrosive and adding co-actives to the mix can enhance the stability, efficacy, pH of the product.
Whereas many disinfection products on the market are sachets that dissolve in water or concentrated liquids that are poured into the water prior to cleaning, Peracide is supplied as a soluble tablet. This allows the user to simply measure the correct amount of water and then add the correct number of tablets into the water.
Evidence has shown that with the use of an effective disinfectant system that cross-infection and outbreaks can be reduced by as much as 70%, as well as reducing the cost of using hydrogen peroxide vaporisers or UVCs.
WHY PERACIDE?
PERACIDE ADN THE ENVIRONMENT
Peracide is a peracetic acid-based disinfectant formulated for effective cleaning and disinfection across a wide range of applications.
The product is suitable for use on a variety of compatible surfaces, including stainless steel, ceramic, porcelain, plastics and rubber, when used in accordance with the product label and instructions for use.
Peracetic acid decomposes into acetic acid (vinegar), water and oxygen over time. Users should always dispose of unused product and packaging in accordance with the product label and local regulations.
UNIQUE COLOUR CHANGING ACTIVATION SYSTEM
Peracide’s integrated colour indicator system provides clear direction to the user on how to use the product, as it will show the user when the solution has lost its efficacy.
BROAD MICROBIOLOGICAL EFFICACY
Peracide has been tested against a broad range of microorganisms in accordance with relevant EN standards, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and bacterial spores, such as Clostridioides difficile spores, norovirus and Escherichia coli.
The product has undergone independent microbiological testing to demonstrate its efficacy under a range of test conditions. Testing has included studies carried out by the Department of Medical Microbiology at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust under the supervision of the Environmental Research Group, headed by Professor Peter Wilson.
AVAILABLE ON NHS SUPPLY CHAIN
As well as being available directly from Sky Chemicals, Peracide is also available for purchase directly through the NHS Supply Chain.
